What's Considered Poor?

This is beyond belief!

Time Warner is charging more to folks who can least afford to pay. Geneva Hurst, 82, is upset because she had to pay a dollar extra when she paid her cable bill in person at a Texas City service center. She doesn't have a checking account or credit card and cashes her Social Security check to buy food and pay bills.

Geneva said, "I goes there. I don't have a checking account but I pays it in cash. And I walk in there one day and I paid it in cash and she says when I paid -- 'Oh, you know, we have to charge a dollar extra.' ... It's a sad thing. It's so sad, 'cause poor people, we just barely getting by with what we're already paying."

John Stokes, 81, also survives on Social Security. He keeps a detailed ledger of all his bills.

Stokes says as soon as he gets his Time Warner cable bill he goes right over to the Time Warner service center and pays his bill. And that extra dollar is hard on folks who don't have enough dollars to begin with.

Stokes said, "My Social Security, that's what I'm living on, you know. I have to watch what I'm doing."

"A dollar's a dollar," said Geneva. "But you take it like that, that's 12 dollars a year and you have a lot of poor people paying cable bills."

Since when do "poor people" get cable? Is cable supposed to be some right for the "poor?" Are we defining "poor" as ones ability to pay their cable bill? These wimpy ass crying little whiners have no idea what it's like to be "poor." This is a disgusting insult to those whe are truly in need.

CNN's Turn

To flat out lie. In a bold attempt to "prove" that the war isn't worth it we get this from the far left wing democrat run network.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iran has a right to develop nuclear technology and the international community should drop its demands that Tehran prove it's not trying to build a nuclear weapon, Iraq's foreign minister said Friday.

Now, let's see what he really said.

We respect Iran’s and every other nation’s right to pursue nuclear technology for research purposes and peaceful use given they accept [giving] the internationally required guarantees that this will not lead to an armament race in the region...

This is just more proof that the democrat run media will do everything in their power to bring down the United States.

Can we question their patriotism yet?

How Democrats Feel About Our Military On Memorial Day Weekend

This is even shocking to me. You'd think the democrats would at least pretend to honor our troops during this weekend. What we get is just the opposite, they're accusing them of war crimes. Here is just one example.

Does anyone doubt that certain G.I.'s are committing war crimes?

There's been an uproar over a supposedly hoaxed video of a G.I. admitting to mass murder of innocents, but does anyone actually doubt that certain of our soldiers are indeed mad dog killers?

No, I'm not saying they all are, but many are. We've seen the evidence over and over.

But the number one group of war criminals is of course the neo cons, the ones who tricked the soldiers into thinking the Iraqis are the ones who attacked us, and that they are mere cockroaches to be smashed asunder.

It's not the soldiers who should be punished, it's the commanders in chief.

Here is another:

2. careful...

We aren't supposed to question the ersatz hero worship of the troops. Even many at DU fall in line and don't dare question this. This war mentality isn't likely to change anytime soon. It has been carefully instigated by the military industrial complex after their failure in Vietnam. With their pawns in the media they have cultivated an unquestioning mantra of "support the troops".

All This Time You Thought I Was Exaggerating

The democrats in Michigan have taken out the words "America" and "Americans" from their public schools.

Censoring the word "America" from our own schools is something Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Osama bin Laden would never have thought possible. Michigan has done it without a whimper.

In perhaps a well-intentioned, but pernicious example of political correctness, the Michigan Department of Education is attempting to ban the "America" and "American" from our public schools. Even though the word "America" appears in the department's own civics and government benchmarks, the department's style protocol for the Michigan Education Assessment Program requires that "America" and "Americans" be expunged from our testing and grade level expectations. Last week, the department ordered that our hard-working teachers not utter the words.

We're all 'North Americans'

The Department of Education asserts that "Americans" includes Mexicans, Canadians and others in the Western Hemisphere, so referring to U.S. residents as Americans is inappropriate. In the department's view, "America" happens to include South, Central and North America. Accordingly, when referring to the colonial period, the state bureaucracy requires teachers to refer to "the colonies of North America" or "North Americans." After the American Revolution, the nation is called the United States (not of America). a

Can you imagine having such a vicious hatred of your own country that you won't even utter the words "America" or "Americans?"

Can we now recognize that democrats are out to destroy this country in any way possible? Now do you see why I call public schools "government re-education camps?"

All I can say is God help us if these kooks regain power!

UPDATE:

I was going to wait to hear more but I got a comment from a left wing kook so I'll post what we know. While the Michigan DOE has issued a feeble "denial" there is obviously much more to this story. As you can see this article shows that the Michigan DOE has indeed banned the word "America" from social studies testing. And this happend a decade ago.

Michigan’s politically correct bureaucrats almost killed the use of “America” in social studies classes. Fortunately, state school Superintendent Mike Flanagan says he is stopping this nonsense. But taxpayers and parents must remain vigilant against this dumbing down of our students.

The problem began 10 years ago. That’s when the Michigan Department of Education eliminated the use of “America” and “Americans” on its Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) social studies testing, according to Karen Todorov, the department’s social studies consultant.

As she has made clear in e-mails and other statements, Todorov says it is “ethnocentric” for educators to refer to Americans when Canadians and residents from Central and South America are also Americans.

Department spokesman Martin Ackley defended the practice Tuesday by saying it was part of a national trend of being “more historically accurate.” He used the hypothetical example of a transfer student from Mexico getting confused if the MEAP test referred to America. ...

The issue became even sillier last week when Todorov told a meeting of the Michigan Social Studies Supervisors Association that officials should tell their teachers not to use “America” or “Americans.”

“We use the United States after the founding of the nation, and before that ‘the colonies of North America’ or ‘North Americans,’” she wrote in an e-mail. ...

Now that this exercise in political correctness has been exposed, Flanagan properly promises that “America” and “American” won’t be banned. He says Todorov’s statements have been “misconstrued.”

But this, too, is revisionist history — as demonstrated by the department’s initial defense of excluding “America” from the MEAP test and Todorov’s vigorous defense of the philosophy on Frank Beckmann’s WJR radio show.

Flanagan may soft pedal her comments as an innocent “conversation,” but they had the blunt force of the state behind them. That explains why educators we talked to Wednesday were reluctant to go on the record — for fear of angering state officials.

It’s fine that Flanagan has promised that this will stop. But the proof of his convictions will be in his actions, not in his words. His department should restore the use of “America” on the social studies MEAP test. And perhaps he should keep a better eye on what his officials and consultants are up to when they think no one is looking.

What's obvious is that the DOE wasn't expecting such a backlash from their obvious anti-American agenda and have bactracked from banning the word "America" and "Americans" throughout the entire school system.

Democrat Media Starting To Understand Capitalism?

We can only hope. This headline may be a good first step.

Report: Labor costs threaten small firms

The body of the article is obvious for anyone who has ever run a business but apparently it's something new to democrats.

NEW YORK, May 24 (UPI) -- Labor costs pose as great a risk to operating margins at smaller U.S. companies as do the prices of commodities like gasoline, a survey has found.

A study by Satya Pradhuman, chief small cap strategist for Merrill Lynch Global Securities Research & Economics Group found that around 26 percent of respondents believe labor costs constitute the greatest threat to operating margins.

No kidding, labor costs run around 35% for most small companies. I'm not sure gasoline or any other "commodity" would even register 1%.

No wonder democrats hate the freedom and liberty that Capitalism brings to people. They have no understanding of it whatsoever.

Just Remember, This Woman Wants To Be President

Not only is Hillary Clinton all for illegal immigration she wants US to pay for every social service imaginable to those who break our laws.

2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has proposed amending the Senate's immigration reform legislation to provide federal funding for the education and health care of illegal immigrants.

Arguing that the federal government should pick up the tab for social services provided to illegals, Mrs. Clinton told the Senate:

"My amendment addresses one of the clearest examples of this neglect because our failed national immigration policy has left our state and local governments to bear the brunt of the costs of immigration. Our schools, our hospitals, our other state and local services are being strained." a

One can only stare blankly and shake head.

Moral Relativism At It's Ugliest

According to democrats there isn't a lick of difference between George Bush and that genocidal dictator of Iran.

Admittedly, Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has invoked language that is tough, defiant and downright ugly at times.

That just puts him in good company.

In many parts of the world, President Bush doesn't exactly come across as a honeyed voice of reason, either.

Plenty of Americans don't agree with what Bush has done in the world -- just as some Iranians don't agree with what Iran's president says he might do. a

Can you imagine comparing our president with a dictator who slaughters his fellow citizens for the crime of being Jewish or Christian? I can't imagine hating one's own country as much as democrats do.

Mexican Migrants Heading North

You mean Mexicans are crossing the border? Who knew?

I'm Getting Dizzy

Here are just a few quotes from the New York Times and Time magazine about climate change.

Time, Sept. 10, 1923: "The discoveries of changes in the sun's heat and the southward advance of glaciers in recent years have given rise to conjecture of the possible advent of a new ice age."

Time, Jan. 2, 1939: "Gaffers who claim that winters were harder when they were boys are quite right ... weather men have no doubt that the world at least for the time being is growing warmer."

Time, June 24, 1974: "Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age."

NYT, May 21, 1975: "Scientists Ponder Why World's Climate is Changing; A Major Cooling Widely Considered to Be Inevitable."

Time, April 9, 2001: "(S)cientists no longer doubt that global warming is happening, and almost nobody questions the fact that humans are at least partly responsible."

NYT, Dec. 27, 2005: "Past Hot Times Hold Few Reasons to Relax About New Warming."

Debunking The Democrat Lies

Peter Wehner eviscerates some of the lies that democrats have heaped on this nation about the war in Iraq.

The president misled Americans to convince them to go to war.

Let's review what we know. The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) is the intelligence community's authoritative written judgment on specific national-security issues. The 2002 NIE provided a key judgment: "Iraq has continued its [WMD] programs in defiance of U.N. resolutions and restrictions. Baghdad has chemical and biological weapons as well as missiles with ranges in excess of U.N. restrictions; if left unchecked, it probably will have a nuclear weapon during this decade."

Read the whole thing. I wonder if democrats know that it's not 1970 anymore? Do they think they can lie without getting caught? One thing is for sure, it must be nice to be a democrat, not being able to feel shame or guilt and the like.

Democrats Take "In God We Trust" Off The Nickel

Ok, it was only democrats at a school and the nickel was shown on the yearbook but still.

A Keller school district parent said political correctness has run amok at her daughter's elementary school, where the principal chose to omit the words "In God We Trust" from an oversize coin depicted on the yearbook cover.

Janet Travis, principal of Liberty Elementary School in Colleyville, wanted to avoid offending students of different religions, a district spokesman said. Students were given stickers with the words that could be affixed to the book if they so chose.

If that's not bad enough you're not going to believe this!

Ackerman suggested that the school could have used a different symbol for liberty, such as the Liberty Bell or the Statue of Liberty, if it was concerned about giving offense. But Gardner said those symbols may not be acceptable to everyone, either.

Who the hell is going to be "offended" by the Liberty Bell or the Statue of Liberty? Why do democrats have such a vicious hatred of freedom? Could you imagine being a democrat and having a negative reaction to those two symbols of liberty? How could one hate their country to that extent?

L.A. Times Doesn't Want To Be Left Out

With all this lying by our media the L.A. Times had to join in. Of course this one anybody can tell is an outright lie.

Cyndi Smallwood is looking for a few strong men for her landscaping company. Guys with no fear of a hot sun, who can shovel dirt all day long. She'll pay as much as $34 an hour.

She can't find them.

Smallwood is ambivalent on immigration reform, saying demands for immediate citizenship by those who entered the country illegally are offensive. But without a guest worker program, she says, her company probably will not survive. a a

Ambivalent? Hardly! A quick Google seach and I found this. She's the president of a pro illegal immigration organization. Why would the L.A. Times make this outrageous lie? It's not like we can't check to see if what they is true or not. When I Googled Ms. Smallwood's name I found that article on the second page. Where are the editors for the paper? Where is the fact checking? This should be embarrassing even for a far left wing kook fringe paper.

USA Today Didn't Want The New York Times To Be Alone

In lying to their customers. Remember the story from a couple of days ago when it was reported that three major telecommunication companies were giving phone records to the government? Looks as if the democrat "journalist" made the whole thing up. At first I was wondering if she'll get fired and then I realized she'll probably get some kind of award just as Dana Priest got the Pulitzer for making up the charge that there are secret CIA prisons in Europe. The media's only purpose is to destroy the United States any way possible.

Another Demorat Moonbat Heard From

I know this is from an "editorial" page but it's still funny. How this response was let into a major newspaper is the real scandel.

At President Bush's command, our borders to the north and south bristle with arms and men. This is ostensibly to keep immigrants out of the United States, but do not be fooled for a moment: It is equally to keep Americans in.

An outrageous notion? A democracy untended is always vulnerable to the slide toward fascism, which holds as its principle tenet the separation, persecution and denial of equality of a specifically targeted class of people, based on manufactured belief systems.

This allows the government to act at will upon the least powerful, while at the same time laying the groundwork for the oppression of the entire population.

So, as we turn our backs on the weakest among us, we will have only ourselves to blame when the men at the borders aim their arms at us, and there is no one left to speak or act in our defense. If this idea is yet beyond imagining, turn to any history book -- the past lies just before us.

Going To The Dogs

We've all heard about seeing eye dogs and dogs that help the handicapped. Now we have dogs that are used for emotional support. No, not the kind of support you're thinking. The new fad is to bring your pooch into restaurants for good mental health. This is an excruciatingly long article and I only found a couple of things interesting.

Health care professionals have recommended animals for psychological or emotional support for more than two decades, based on research showing many benefits, including longer lives and less stress for pet owners.

Ok, that set's it up. Now onto this one obviously left wing kook, and I mean KOOK!

One 30-year-old woman, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., said she does not see a psychotherapist but suffers from anxiety and abandonment issues and learned about emotional-needs dogs from a television show. She ordered a dog vest over the Internet with the words "service dog in training" for one of the several dogs she lives with, even though none are trained as service animals. "Having my dogs with me makes me feel less hostile," said the woman, who refused to give her name.

"I can fine people or have them put in jail if they don't let me in a restaurant with my dogs, because they are violating my rights," she insisted.

Doesn't seem like it's worked for this woman who refuses to give her name.

I'm not sure what the law is now but I know that when I owned my bar in Illinois I would have been shut down on the spot by the Health Department if a dog was caught in there. I'm sure it's the same with the restaurant I own now. I understand the provision for dogs that are needed by the handicapped but I don't believe the Health Department is going to by the excuse that the dog should be allowed cause you get depressed without it. What a whack job that woman is!

Memories

Back room, off to the right is the juke box. Oh, if that pool table could talk. :)
Dawn again and Melissa an old friend.

So many emotions filled me up when I walked back in for the first time since selling it. A bit of sadness as I first sat down but that soon turned to relief when the same old customers began bitching and complaining about the same things that they've complained about for the last 13 years. In just a few minutes I thought about all the bartenders who worked for me, all the girlfriends I had, the fact that for 13 years we were open EVERY DAY, the 8 different places I lived in those 13 years, and finally how very glad I am that that part of my life is over. If there was ever a person who was ready for a change it was me! I will miss a few of the people but that's it. I'm where I want to be for the second half of my life. The Only Chance Al Qaeda Has In Iraq

Is the American media. Don't take my word for it, al Qaeda themselves tell us that their only ally in this war is our media. Here is an excerpt of a document seized by our military.

The policy followed by the brothers in Baghdad is a media oriented policy without a clear comprehensive plan to capture an area or an enemy center. Other words, the significance of the strategy of their work is to show in the media that the Americans and the government do not control the situation and there is resistance against them. This policy dragged us to the type of operations that are attracted to the media, and we go to the streets from time to time for more possible noisy operations which follow the same direction.

Even the terrorists know that the democrat media is on their side. When are we going to realize that the democrats are just as much the enemy as al Qaeda is? What is it going to take for the American people to wake up?

Remember

This is why we fight. These people are truly evil! And don't forget, democrats don't believe we should be fighting the terrorists.

What's Missing?

Not only are democrats the party of treason see if you can find anything on the democrats agenda about the war on terror?

Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House's first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, "You never know where it leads to." a

The greatest threat to this nation is terrorism and by extension the war on terror. What do democrats intend to do about the war? Apparently impeaching Bush and giving seniors less medicine is their solution. Are we to assume they would just flat out surrender to the terrorists? It's almost too painful to think about how many Americans will die from terrorist attacks if the democrats regain power. Fortunately, in my opinion, there aren't enough competitive seats up this year for power to switch to democrats. I hope that 9-11 is still fresh enough in voters minds to remember what 8 years of failed Clinton policies did to this great country.

No Wonder Democrats Still Get Elected

Now we know why 18-24 year olds overwhelmingly vote for democrats.

The study found that less than six months after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, 33 percent could not point out Louisiana on a U.S. map.

In the Middle East, 63 percent could not find Iraq or Saudi Arabia on a map, and 75 percent could not point out Iran or Israel. Forty-four percent couldn't find any one of those four countries.

Inside the United States, "half or fewer of young men and women 18-24 can identify the states of New York or Ohio on a map [50 percent and 43 percent, respectively]," the study said.

When the poll was conducted in 2002, "Americans scored second to last on overall geographic knowledge, trailing Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Sweden," the report said.

Looks to me that we can congratulate our wonderful government re-education camps (public schools) for these statistics. As long as the left controls academia they will continue to keep our young men and women stupid. That's the only way to guarantee future democrat voters.

Heh!

New York Times Sympathizes With Terrorist

So much for the New York Times even attempting to be "objective." Democrat "journalist" C. J. Chivers feels sorry for head chopper Zarqawi because we made fun of his inability to fire a machine gun.

An effort by the American military to discredit the terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi by showing video outtakes of him fumbling with a machine gun — suggesting that he lacks real fighting skill — was questioned yesterday by retired and active American military officers.

The American military, which said it captured the videotapes in a recent raid, released selected outtakes in an effort to undermine Mr. Zarqawi's image as leader of the Council of Holy Warriors, formerly Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, and suggested that his fighting talents and experience were less than his propaganda portrays. But several veterans of wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, as well as active-duty officers, said in telephone interviews yesterday that the clips of Mr. Zarqawi's supposed martial incompetence were unconvincing.

An active-duty Special Forces colonel who served in Iraq also said that what the video showed actually had little relationship to Mr. Zarqawi's level of terrorist skill. "Looking at the video, I enjoy it; I like that he looks kind of goofy," said the Special Forces officer, who was granted anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on military matters. "But as a military guy, I shrug my shoulders and say: 'Of course he doesn't know how to use it. It's our gun.' He doesn't look as stupid as they said he looks."

I don't believe for a minute that there is any "active-duty Special Forces colonel" that the Times interviewed. This is nothing more than the "journalists" own opinion. I'd lay 10-1 odds that the "journalist" made this entire part up. If you're not going to name your source then to me there is no source.

One thing is for sure, the Times has at least admitted to rooting for the enemy. The democrats in the press will do anything which includes conspiring with al Qaeda to gain back power. God help us all if they ever regain that power.

Democrats Implicated In The Murder Of 3 Soldiers

Well, they were democrats (called "communists") in Italy.

An article on L’Opinione reports (in Italian) that anti-globalization and communist groups based in Italy, among which is the infamous “anti-imperialist camp” (that collecting “Euros for the Iraqi resistance”) coordinated with Islamic terrorists in Iraq to attack our troops in Nassiryiah. The Italian intelligence heard phone conversations in which the red fundamentalists instructed the Islamists about how and when to kill our soldiers. I read this article a couple of days ago but didn't think much of it. Now Michelle Malkin is reporting on the "gang problems" in the military. I strongly disagree with Michelle. Gangs have been a "problem" forever in the armed forces. I for one don't mind if those with violent tendencies are out there killing terrorists. Would you rather have the gang members hunting down the enemy or breaking into 7-11's here at home? I understand that they will someday be out of the military and back in society but let's not forget the job our military is doing right now. They're preventing another 9-11 type attack by taking the fight to the terrorists. I'm also more inclined to believe that despite the graffiti most of these individuals have learned some dicipline and self respect while in the military. In my opinion this is much ado about nothing.

I Thought These Pro Illegal Immigration Protests Were Peaceful?

I wonder why this wasn't widely reported? My guess, it doesn't fit the vicious anti-Americanism of the press or their bosses.......the democrat party.

The Party Of Tolerance

Aren't democrats tolerant of differing viewpoints? If you disagree with democrats some want to deport you while others want to cut your head off, and they wonder why we call them un-American. I tend to question the patriotism of people who's favororite form of punishment is the same as the terrorists.

Poker Run

I didn't have much time after dark to take any pictures. In the last picture here if you were to pan to the right people were lined up for another 100 feet or so.

This event is called a "Poker Run." These are usually for someone who has recently passed or for someone gravely ill. In this case the event was in the honor of recently deceased pastor who's passion was for the orphanage in Thomasville North Carolina. Each Bike pays $15 to enter the Poker Run. They then go to 5 different bars and get a card. We were the last stop. The best poker hand won $100 and the worst hand got $25. The rest of the proceeds went to the orphanage. I figured there were around 300 bikes so that would make it about $4,375 that went to the kids.

The noise ordinance kicks in here at 11:00 pm so the crowd began to disperse at around that time. It took 8 of us until 2:30 am to get the place cleaned up. But it was well worth it.

Bummer!

I took some pictures of the Poker Run party we had on Saturday night but for some reason the pictures aren't transferring over to the internet. I'll keep trying, the crowd exceeded 300 and it was the best day I've had by over 30%.
